Leaving Taormina, you'll head deep into the Sicilian countryside and to the Barone di Villagrande Estate. The winery and its vineyards rest on the slopes of Mt Etna. The land has belonged to the Nicolosi family since 1727, when Emperor Charles VI conferred privileges and title in recognition of their dedication to viticulture.
The estate you'll visit today is situated at 2,150 feet above sea level in a natural, south-facing amphitheater. Fortuitously, it lies in the heart of the DOC Etna and Etna Bianco Superiore appellation zone. The volcanic soils and the typical mountain climate create a unique terroir, allowing the production of wines with moderate alcohol content, rich in fixed acidity and extracts. The red wines are stylish and firm, while the whites are long and structured and have a delicate bouquet.
