Marrakech, founded almost a thousand years ago, nestles at the foot of Morocco's mighty Atlas Mountains. Set off by comfortable, air-conditioned motorcoach for the 160-mile panoramic drive, with a rest stop en route.
Once in Marrakech, you will pass the Koutoubia Minaret -- a 12th-century Moorish monument. Visit the Bahia Palace to see the rooms that once housed the Sultan's harem.
You will also stop at the Medersa Ben Youssef, once a Koran school. This educational institute, in the heart of Marrakech, is a place where time seems to have stood still. As you walk through its corridors, you cannot help but feel a sense of awe at the intricate detailing on the walls, the beautifully-carved cedar wood, and the stunning zellige tilework. This is a place that fosters contemplation, study, and an appreciation for the beauty of Islamic architecture. It is a place of prayer for Muslims, a place of learning for students of theology, and a testament to the talents of Moroccan craftsmen.
Lunch is served at a luxury venue before you head to Jemaa al-Fnaa Square to mingle with soothsayers, acrobats, snake charmers and water-sellers.
If time permits, you will have free time to explore and stroll the Marrakech souk (market) before returning to Casablanca.
Please note: Travel time to Marrakech is 3.5 - 4 hours each way. Modest attire is required; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Do not take photos of military personnel without their consent.
