Go beyond the ordinary and discover the island of Barbados. Led by way of panoramic drive, you’ll see Barbados by bus, strolling through local sites, and by a stop to enjoy a delicious local meal. By the time you leave, you’ll be enchanted by this Caribbean Island.
Begin your journey along the historic West Coast. Often referred to as the "Platinum Coast," it is renowned for its palm-fringed beaches, luxurious resorts, and tranquil turquoise waters. From there you will head inland past sugar cane fields, villages, churches and plantations before descending onto the east coast of Barbados. There are amazing views ahead -- a rugged landscape and the Atlantic Ocean tumbling ashore.
You will stop in Bathsheba, a rugged and picturesque seaside village known for its dramatic rock formations and pounding surf. You may spot surfers and nature enthusiasts taking advantage of the island’s wilder side. For now, you’ll take a stroll along the beach and have an opportunity to take a few breathtaking photos.
Next you’ll visit St John's Parish Church, perched on a cliff at 800 feet above sea level, overlooking coastal St. John and the ocean. The present-day building was built in 1836, and is a stunning architectural masterpiece offering a glimpse into the island’s rich history and enduring religious significance. In the graveyard, look out for the tomb of Ferdinand Paleologus – a descendent of the Byzantine Imperial family – who died in Barbados in 1678 after being a resident for more than 20 years.
Continue to Sunbury, where you will visit Sunbury Plantation House, located in the tranquil St. Philip parish countryside. This is truly a living monument to plantation life of a bygone era. The house has been carefully restored and lovingly cherished by its owners for posterity and for the enjoyment of generations to come. Not only will you enjoy exploring the Great House, but you will also enjoy a light deli-style lunch here.
Conclude your excursion with a drive back to your ship.
