Shelburne's heritage waterfront retains one of the largest collections of original 18th-, 19th- and early 20th-century architecture still in use in North America today. Its fine buildings nestle on the large natural harbor that was once the fourth-largest community in North America. In 1783, after the American Revolutionary War, more than 5,000 United Empire Loyalists arrived by ship from the United States and settled in Shelburne with their families and servants. More than 3,500 free Black Loyalists also settled in nearby Birchtown.
Experience the colorful history and old-world charm of Shelburne, which has also been the setting of many Hollywood film productions since the 1990s, including the feature The Scarlet Letter, starring Demi Moore and Robert Duvall.
At the conclusion of the tour, you're invited to explore Shelburne's Museums by the Sea complex with an admission ticket provided (self-guided).
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
