Passing through the historic colonial section of Newport, a panoramic drive takes you along the world-famous Ocean Drive, whose mansions represent more than 250 years of social and architectural history. You will also have spectacular views of Newport's rocky coastline along the way.
Continuing to Bellevue Avenue, enter the world of wealth and power as it existed at the dawn of the 20th century. You will visit one of the grand summer "cottages" that defined the era known as the Age of Beauty. Tour either The Elms or Rosecliff, both of which represent the height of gracious living and entertaining by America's elite. Imagine yourself at a fabulous party in a magnificent ballroom or perhaps at a fairytale dinner as you see how the upper echelon lived and loved.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Flash photography, selfie sticks, and tripods are not allowed inside the mansions. Mansion tours at The Elms and Rosecliff are self-guided audio tours using the Newport Mansions app, available in English, French, Spanish, German and Mandarin. Participants must bring their own smart device with earbuds and download the app prior to arrival at the mansion. Floor plans, historic photos and other information are also available on the app. Printed house narratives are available at the front door of the mansion.
