Discover the history of an Aboriginal cattle station and the culture of the Nywaigi Aboriginal people, occupiers of the lands north of Townsville for more than 45,000 years.
Today you’ll travel 1.5 hours north of Townsville by motorcoach to the region of Ingham. This area is especially known for its sugar industry. You’ll pause en route to savor local tropical fruits and a cup of coffee.
At the homestead, you will hear the history of the indigenous people and the first European settlers of the region – the Cassady family. Tour the remnants of the old homestead site and hear about the brutal confrontations between the European settlers and the local people. You’ll even have the chance to try your hand at boomerang throwing before enjoying a BBQ lunch.
Your day includes time to chat with indigenous storytellers and hear the Captive Lives story. Take a look at the exhibit on display in the Grand Old Mungalla homestead.
Please note:
This tour includes long distance travels in coach. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Tour does not operate on holidays.
