Departing the pier, begin your day with a brief panoramic drive through the city of Townsville. Pause for photos at Castle Hill and view colonial-style buildings on your way out into the countryside.
Your arrival at Billabong Sanctuary marks the true beginning of the fun -- this 27-acre reserve of natural Queensland tropical bush is home to a wide variety of native mammals, birds and reptiles. A park ranger takes you on a guided tour and introduces you to the many native animals living in the park. If you're feeling particularly brave, you can handle a snake or crocodile. Make sure to take snaps along the way.
Next, enjoy free time to stroll at your own pace and mingle with the macropods (that's kangaroos and wallabies to most of us). Take part in a handling or feeding show or simply relax by the pool before re-joining the coach for the return transfer to the ship.
Please note: Castle Hill may be substituted on the day, if necessary. Terrain includes uneven surfaces, gravel and dirt. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Some areas may not offer wheelchair access. Tour does not operate on holidays. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
