Escape the crowds on a journey up the glacier-carved Rangitata Valley to visit one of the icons of Canterbury high country stations, Mesopotamia, located at the very heart of the Southern Alps.
Travel to the beautiful Peel Forest with a stop for a morning snack. The Peel Forest is home to a stand of ancient podocarp trees, some of which date back more than 1,000 years.
Upon arrival at Mesopotamia Station (farm) you will meet the station owners and staff, who will demonstrate sheep shearing before you head out to watch sheepdogs working in the yards. Then, it's time to enjoy a home-style buffet lunch complete with a glass of wine.
Enjoy the opportunity to explore at your leisure, take photos or just relax and take in the vastness of the valley.
On the return trip, you'll pause briefly in the charming rural town of Geraldine to stretch your legs and look around.
