Explore the significance of art and plum wine in Wakayama culture. With a local artist leading the way, this will be an in-depth look.
You will visit the Tanioka Lacquer Craft Shop, noted for its Kishu lacquerware -- an art form that dates back 600 years. A traditional artisan will share the time-honored methods and techniques behind the painstaking manufacturing process of Kishu lacquerware. Learn how Kishu is distinguished by its simple yet sophisticated decorations, with inlays of sea shells, pearl, gold and silver foil.
Travel to the Nakano BC Brewery. This well-known sake brewery also produces tarujikomi umeshu hyakuyaku -- a liqueur made from cask-aged plum. Tour the brewery for inspiration; then, you'll attend a workshop to learn how to make your own plum wine.
Before going back to the pier, stop by Kuroshio Ichiba (Market). This bustling hub is famous for its fresh seafood. Sample a variety of local dishes or purchase local seafood and souveniers at your own expense.
