Visit the Sultan's Palace, where a truly colorful welcome awaits you. The ritual ceremony of Joko Kaha, illustrating the greatness of the Sultan of Ternate, is a fascinating start to your day. Take in the splendor of the palace itself as well.
Continue to the world's oldest clove plantation, located nearby on the slopes of Mt Gamalama. The drive takes you along a scenic narrow road to Marikurubu village. Visit the 200 year-old clove and nutmeg plantation -- you'll never view these household staples the same way again. From here, take in the dramatic panoramic views of the Gamalama ridge, made of solid black rock cooled from molten lava. The city of Ternate lies in the distance, with the islands of Tidore and Halmahera forming a scenic backdrop.
