Take a ferry to visit Naoshima Island, well known for its art museums, architecture and sculptures. Meeting the local people on the island adds to the enjoyment.
On the island, begin with the wonderful Benesse House Museum, which integrates a museum and a hotel based on the concept of the coexistence of nature, art and architecture. It was designed by Tadao Ando -- one of the most famous architects in Japan -- and opened in 1992. The museum features paintings, sculpture, photography and installations and also consists of a site-specific collection contributed to by many artists who create their collections in situ. Art and nature integrate with the architecture, which makes the atmosphere both rare and interesting.
After lunch, continue to the Art House Project, opened exclusively for Seabourn guests. This is an art project located in Naoshima's Honmura District. It began in 1998 and revolved around the restoration of the old house. Each artist used an empty space to create art.
At the end of the tour, you will take a chartered ferry from Naoshima back to Takamatsu and walk back to the ship.
Please note:
