Central Lombok is home to traditional Sasak villages. You'll pass beautiful scenery of rice fields and palm trees, and stop at Banyu Mulek -- famous for handmade pottery. Enjoy a cidomo ride (traditional horse cart) to see the skilled villagers processing clay into beautiful export-quality pottery. At the local school, children are trained to make pottery from a very young age. A visit to a large gallery is included, where you can purchase finished products.
Sukarara is a village known for Ikat and handwoven fabric, and you will also visit Sade village to view traditional Sasak houses. Each house contains an interior platform, raised about a yard off the ground, which is made from a mixture of clay, dung and straw. The surface is eventually polished to a high gloss finish, and the roof is made of thatch, with bamboo or palm walls. Sade is also home to the traditional bonnet-shaped rice barns -- lumbungs -- an iconic symbol of Lombok.
Kuta Beach offers the best seascape in Lombok, and an Indonesian buffet lunch is served here at a beautiful tropical resort. Free time is plentiful at the resort, so relax and enjoy the hotel's swimming pool or the crystal-clear blue water of the beach before returning to the port.
Please note: Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk. Bring insect repellent.
