Start your day with a narrated drive to a Hagi Yaki pottery gallery. This style of ceramics flourished during the Edo Period and is still highly prized for use in traditional tea ceremonies. A master potter will explain the features of Hagi Yaki pottery and how to make it.
Next, continue to Hagi -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a guided walk through this fascinating Hagi castle town.
Visit the Kikuya Residence. This house belonged to a wealthy Edo-period merchant who provided services to the Hagi Clan. The main house, the principal warehouse, the treasury, the rice warehouse and the kitchen house are listed on the National Register of Important Cultural Properties. It's easy to get a feel for the lifestyle of the merchants as you walk through and take in the many objets d'art.
After lunch, a short drive brings you to the timber Tokoji Temple set within the tranquil woodlands. Dating back to 1691, it houses the Obaku school of Japanese Zen Buddhism and offers visitors a moment of serenity. See the graveyard where some feudal lords are buried.
Please note:
