Ready for an Arctic tundra hike? Take a walk through town where you will see the well-known colorful Arctic houses en route to the trailhead.
Trek through Arctic tundra, rocky terrain and dedicated paths, enjoying views of Disko Bay throughout the hike. Your guide will stop along the way to tell you about the Arctic flora and fauna, the Kujalleq Fjord and the Sermermiut settlement area.
Halfway through your hike, enjoy a well-earned 20-30 minute refreshment stop at a viewpoint overlooking the Ilulissat Icefiord. Take pictures, chat with the guide or just relax and enjoy the peaceful vista.
Following your break, continue your hike down to the Ilulissat Icefjord Center. This brand new center, completed in 2021, contains a gift shop, café, exhibition area, cinema, and research facilities. As Greenland is considered the epicenter for climate impact, the Ilulissat Icefjord has become a renowned location for climate scientists and government leaders from around the world to study the true impacts of climate change.
From here, feel free to explore the center on your own and return to the pier by scheduled shuttle bus at your leisure.
Please note:
Wherever Included Experience tours are offered, guests are allowed to participate in only one included experience per call unless otherwise specified in the tour description. If a timing conflict occurs guests should anticipate to participate on their booked optional experience or optional expedition and forgo the included experience. Minimum age is 12 years. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking, as the 3.5 hours of walking is uphill, over unpaved, rough walking tracks with many steps. Dress in layers and wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring insect repellent; wear sunscreen. Please make sure to confirm the shuttle bus schedule. The level of guide experience varies in this region due the remoteness of its location. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here, and you are trading breadth of experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties your guide may encounter and with any operational surprises that may crop up.
