One of the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan’s visionary achievements was to turn S'ir Bani Yas island into a wildlife sanctuary, where hunting is banned, that offers both endangered and other species of local and foreign origin a home to roam free. Part of this "Greening of the Desert" program was also aimed at making the desert environment more hospitable for human habitation.
Experience life on S'ir Bani Yas Island from centuries ago during this memorable archaeological excursion to a Christian Monastery which is located on the eastern side of the Island, where archaeological excavations are ongoing. Gain unique insights into life on the island centuries ago during a guided walking tour around the remains of an early-Christian monastery site.
Founded in the late 6th Century AD, this is the only early Christian site in the UAE, and one of international historical significance. During your tour you will learn about the history of this area and its inhabitants and view artefacts unearthed by archaeologists.
Following the walking tour, a scenic sightseeing tour of the area and S'ir Bani Yas Island concludes back at the pier.
