The Island of Mozambique is an island city in the northern reaches of Mozambique. In fact, it was the country's first capital, and the country took its name from the city. Due to its rich history, manifested by an interesting architectural heritage and cultural traditions that have remained largely unchanged over centuries, the island is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
With your local guide, you will visit the São Paulo Palace & Museum, see the São Sebastião Fortress and Nossa Senhora de Baluarte Chapel the oldest mosque in Mozambique Island, Swahili Door, statues, narrow alleys and more.
Please note:
Shade is limited; please dress accordingly. Bring bottled water and a hat, and wear sunscreen. Fresh water refill points are conveniently located. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. You will be required to remove your footwear inside the former residential areas of the Palace Museum. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here, and you are trading breadth of experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any difficulties your guide may encounter and with any operational surprises that may crop up.
