Take your Prince Rupert experience to the next level with a hike that unveils a breathtaking tapestry of rugged turns, alpine meadows, and pristine wilderness. Breathe in the fresh air and take in the sweeping vistas of this pristine land.
Your expert guide is trained in outdoor leadership and knowledgeable about the area's history, indigenous culture, and local plant life. Climb aboard a shuttle bus for a ride through the heart of Prince Rupert's downtown Mcbride Street and onto Highway 16 to the Tall Trees trailhead of Mt Oldfield in the Great Bear Rainforest. Gear up with trekking poles and a water bottle. Feel free to taste the salmonberries, huckleberries, or wild blueberries that grow alongside the trail (in season). Your guide will point out what's safe to eat.
The first part of the hiking trail is relatively level and meandering through the tall cedars and undergrowth but climbs gradually for the next two miles. At an elevation of approximately 1,000 feet, the trail levels off with broad paths open to the sky. Here, your efforts are rewarded with a stunning panoramic view of the North Pacific Ocean, Morse Basin, and the coastal mountains in the distance.
Take a 20-minute break for an energy-rich snack and sandwich from a local café. Here, all questions can be answered by your guide.
Trekking back along the same path, the descent back to the base of Mt Oldfield will allow a second opportunity for any missed photos.
