An ocean rafting adventure may be the perfect way to visit Sitka and its surroundings. Welcome to this world filled with the sights, sounds and smells of the ocean -- an intimate glimpse of Alaska's wild splendor that will excite your senses and provide lasting memories.
Don an exposure suit, a balaclava, safety glasses and gloves for the adventure ahead. Traveling at up to 30 mph, this ocean-going raft thrill ride offers a rush of fresh air. Specially-designed straddle seats provide comfortable and secure seating for this exciting trip out into nature.
Explore the volcanic coastline of Kruzof Island. This area makes for excellent photo opportunities and is home to a variety of wildlife. It is not uncommon to spot whales, sea otters, Steller sea lions and sea birds, as well as brown bears and Sitka black-tail deer from the raft. You will get close to the towering cliffs of St Lazaria Island -- a National Wildlife Refuge --
where seabirds nest.
In a volcanic sea cave (weather permitting), the captain will stop the boat and shut down the engine so you can listen to the surf crashing on the volcanic cliffs. You may be lucky enough to hear the song of nesting seabirds or whales breathing.
Please note: Minimum age is 10 years. Minimum height is 5'3". Maximum weight is 350 lbs. Participants must be able to climb into and out of the raft. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Ride will be bumpy; guests who are pregnant and those with a hip, back or neck condition are not allowed to participate. Tour operates rain or shine but may be canceled by the tour operator in the event of unsuitable conditions.
