Cruise by Zodiac among the brash ice calved from Hubbard Glacier. Crevassed and contorted as it grinds steadily across the bedrock below, Hubbard Glacier stands in stark contrast to most glaciers around the world -- it is advancing (growing) rather than retreating. Listen for the thunderous roar of fresh icebergs calving off its face, and scan the water as the Ventures naturalist and Zodiac driver point out the many marine species feeding in these nutrient-rich waters.
Please note: Tour departs from and returns to the ship. Daily temperatures vary. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf. Bring binoculars. Wear sunglasses and biodegradable sunscreen; bring insect repellent. There are steps to negotiate when (dis)embarking the Zodiac, with assistance offered. Tour generally operates rain or shine but may be canceled in the event of extremely bad weather or unsuitable conditions. Minimum age is 6 years.
